Because of the similarity of name to the Rotary Club of Nelson, in 2001 the name changed. We are a team of committed people looking to add real value to the Nelson Community in which we live. IAN CATTO URGENT MESSAGES: Ian needs a member to be available to go with him to do one parents interview for our Matched Twin exchange ( this week here in Nelson) Please one of our retirees can someone ring Ian and be available to help out – this is important. Also we need one Rotary wife to act as Counsellor for when the Australian girl is here.( Its availability in the short period if needed rather than being onerous) Page 3 MEETING of 12th August: “ Engage Rotary, Change Lives” this year’s Rotary theme We were privileged to have a visit for this Club night from our DG John Rickard and his wife Margaret. Not only did John give us an inspirational summary about where Rotary is going, but we also had Margaret address the members and their wives -- an inspiring talk on how Rotary is able to promote humanitarian assistance in so many areas of the world, and about the very real relief that projects like Shelterbox have been able to provide, all from the funds we can inject into this work of Rotary International.This was a night when there were absolutely no “dozers off “. We were able to have a small ceremony to induct Roger Wilson as a member of the Club and of Rotary International –and Roger’s wife Jennie attended too. In all we had an attendance of 23 last Monday ! ( pic missing, will be in next week’s edition) SIGNS ……… This one at a Car Dealership: The best way to get back on your feet - miss a car payment ! ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE We have arranged for an exchange with District 2400, which occupies a large portion of South-West Sweden. There are 59 clubs, over 3000 members whose average age is 61 years and about 20% of members are women. There are over one million people in the District which covers 3 counties. Main cities are Halmstad and Kristianstad. The exchange will be in 2014. We intend hosting the Swedish team of 4-6 couples for about 2 weeks in February-March, with our outgoing team travelling to Sweden in August. The committee is seeking offers to host our guests. Dates have not been finalized, but we will require host families in Christchurch, Blenheim, Nelson, the West Coast and Ashburton for 2 or 3 nights in each venue. We are also seeking expressions of interest from those wishing to be hosted in Sweden for about 2 weeks as part of their overseas program later in the year.
