MESSAGE FROM JOHN RICKARD - DISTRICT GOVERNOR TO CLUB PRESIDENTS
I want to wish each and everyone of you a successful and happy year as President of your club. By now you should all have been through your club changeover and are ready to move forward into your year in office. Margaret and I were fortunate to be able to attend 8 changeovers in the last 10days and it was a privilege to be able to share with those clubs as they celebrated the conclusion of one Rotary year and prepared to start another.
Unfortunately I had to turn down some invitations from clubs as it is not possible to cover many in the short time frame of the changeover period.
Please remember that I will be visiting your club in the coming months and as well as attending the club meeting, I would like to meet with your club officers for a short while.
The timetable for all these visits has been sent out but I have attached the schedule to this email as well. Please be sure to advise your programme organiser of the date of my visit. I will be in touch with each of you prior to my visit to confirm the details.
All the best for a great year, and remember to take time to enjoy leading your club for a year. I look forward to seeing you all over the next few months.
Kind Regards John R.
( noted that the timetable is for a pre-meeting with Board at 4pm followed by 5:30pm Dinner Meet at Prince Albert on Mon. 12th August -- as per the Programme in this Bulletin ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE
Rotary Friendship Exchange is a program of Rotary International whereby Rotarians and their partners carry out reciprocal visits and are hosted by Rotarians in another district. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience another culture and to make friendships that may endure. There is no cost to Rotary International
We have arranged for an exchange with District 2400, which occupies a large portion of South-West Sweden. There are 59 clubs, over 3000 members whose average age is 61 years and about 20% of members are women. There are over one million people in the District which covers 3 counties. Main cities are Halmstad and Kristianstad.
The exchange will be in 2014. We intend hosting the Swedish team of 4-6 couples for about 2 weeks in February-March, with our outgoing team travelling to Sweden in August.
The committee is seeking offers to host our guests. Dates have not been finalized, but we will require host families in Christchurch, Blenheim, Nelson, the West Coast and Ashburton for 2 or 3 nights in each venue. We are also seeking expressions of interest from those wishing to be hosted in Sweden for about 2 weeks as part of their overseas program later in the year.

SIX PATHS TO HAPPINESS …………this week’s quote: ( The First Path )
Be positive and generous: one secret comes out of the study of longevity, that mortality figures show a 60% decrease amongst those who help others – life is about slowing down enough to realise you have a lot of gifts , you should be passing on to others.
