our club was named in Honour of Sir Ernest Rutherford

Tuesday, July 2nd, 7.30pm. The Making of the Rutherford Documentary; a talk by Dr John Campbell, University of Canterbury, at Old St John's, Hardy St. All welcome. Non members $2.
Amazingly, until now, there has never been a documentary on Ernest Rutherford, New Zealand's internationally most famous son, the first Nobel Prize awardee for research in Canada, and  probably the most illustrious British scientist of the first half of the 20th century. John Campbell, the producer of the 3-part Rutherford Documentary which is based on his book, relates some of the tales associated with the documentary as well as talking to a selection of clips from it. A copy of the DVD has been gifted to every secondary school in New Zealand. John, the author of Rutherford Scientist Supreme, Rutherford's Ancestors, and is a condensed matter physicist retired from the University of Canterbury. John initiated and runs the Ask-A-Scientist programme which has seen some 90,000 column cms of science in New Zealand newspapers since 1993, and has organised some 50 firewalks throughout New Zealand plus three in the USA, which
probably makes him certifiable.
