Last Week: We had only an average attendance at the partners’ invited Barbecue held at the old Jaycee Rooms at Founders’ Park. The same building houses ACCESS RADIO, and we visited that rather unique business, after a very interesting and informative address from the Manager, Mike Williams. Mike has been in broadcasting most of his working life and clearly this station became a real challenge for him. We spent a few moments in the microphone active studio, and I am sure everyone learned a lot from this experience ! Thanks to Mike for making this opportunity, giving us his time, also to Jim Bishop who brought his BBQ and cooked the meal. Also to Jenny Blommaart who made us some very appetising and tasty salads. A pretty good evening, even if it was dark early.
Also we had the chance to inspect the almost completed Santa Pay & Display Window that has been largely designed and built by Graham Shirley with valued assistance from members like Mike Ballard with his practical skills in various trades. Good one Graham,Mike, and all who helped, its looking good !

. A plea from Murray Butler: The District Committee is in need of four Clubs to host students from this July. I would like to think that some Christchurch area clubs would consider that they are able to assist us with this hosting. Hosting a student can be a very rewarding experience for all concerned and I urge you all to think about the programme. We have some very experienced people in the District that are able to assist in all aspects of the year. PLEASE give this request your urgent attention. Feel free to call me (3 548 4860 or 027 445 9191) or email (
) if you have any questions. DISTRICT ARCHIVES . A note from Gerald Austin: For obvious reasons over the last 30 months I have not requested Club Archives from Clubs to continue the wonderful record of Service by Rotarians in District 9970. I am absolutely certain during these most trying times for many people, interesting stories of Club support to those less fortunate than others abound. They also form the fabric of our Service above Self and should not be forgotten. I ask all Clubs to arrange 1 or 2 members to forward to me by the end of August 2013, a copy of your Club Annual Report, List of Club Members, and copies of or summaries of any extraordinary projects under taken or exemplary service by a club member or members. This information should cover years 2010-11, 2011-12, and this current year to 1st July 2013. Please post to Gerald Austin, 112 Esplanade, Sumner, Christchurch 8081.
