Volunteer opportunity to support the Village Aide Program in the Philippines

Many of you who were at the District 9970 conference will have heard first hand from Gertrudes Lepon about life in the Philippines, and how the Village Aide programme is providing much needed support for people in her community.

The Village Aide Program extends a warm invitation to D 9970 Rotarians and their family members to join volunteers from Australia and the USA to be part of a combined medical/building mission on the island of Bohol in the Philippines 13 – 24th September 2010. So if you have ever thought about volunteering for an international project , this well organised mission in a lovely part of the Philippines could well be the perfect place to start.

The building team will be renovating a dilapidated school building in Tangnan, Panglao for use as an Alternative Learning Centre . This will include computers and a library.

On Saturday Sept 18th the largest Medical Mission ever sponsored by Village Aide will take place in the Village of Panglao, at St. Augustine's convention center. It is expected to cater for about 600 medical patients and about 300 dental patients. The Armed Forces of the Philippines Air force and Navy Dental Team will be providing the dental teams, and local doctors from Bohol and Cebu the medical team. Volunteers will work with local Rotarians to provide support mainly with crowd control and administration.

Further information about the Village Aide Program is available from the following link to our district website

The report from Rotarian Lindsay Crossen and the volunteering information give invaluable information about what it is like to be a volunteer in the Philippines.

Do get in touch if you or a member of you family are interested in taking part or knowing more

kind regards
